Picplz Widget for WordPress

I am quite excited to announce that I have created and published my first open-source piece of code: an unofficial Picplz Widget for WordPress! You can see it in action right here on my blog! Just look to the right of the page!

Since finding Picplz I have immensely enjoyed using their service to easily share pictures online. Until recently the only way I was able to share my Picplz account on this blog was by using a static image that merely linked to my account and showed my Picplz user page.

Earlier this week Picplz launched their API which opened up the ability for anyone with the technical know-how to access their pictures and account information direct from Picplz.

Oh! I have so much I want to say and my fingers aren’t fast enough to type them!

So with Picplz’s new API I set to work creating a WordPress widget that will allow anyone with a Picplz account and WordPress blog to easily show off their Picplz pictures directly on their blog! Huzzah!

Not only do I believe this is the first WordPress widget for Picplz but it is also my very first piece of published open-source code. Aha! So exciting for me!

On top of that I’ve never created a WordPress plugin or widget before. So armed with a positive attitude and the intention to get it done at all costs I set forward on a crash-course to teach myself how to create a WordPress plugin.

The following sites proved invaluable to my learning:

Without a few years experience with the WordPress software I am sure that this endeavor would have taken at least twice as long to accomplish. And hey – I firmly believe anything can be done with a hot cup of tea by your side! Thank you Lipton!

So please enjoy my Picplz WordPress Widget. It was fun to make and I can’t wait to dream up what changes should be added for its next release. Let me know what you want to see in there and I’ll do my best to make it happen.

Thank you!

Let’s Try Some New WordPress Themes

It’s been almost a year that I’ve had this blog using the default WordPress theme “TwentyTen”. Well, it’s about time for a change! So feast your eyes around…there’s new decorations everywhere you look!

In case you weren’t sure, this theme redesign is a work in progress that will be progressing in a live fashion – as in I’ll be making changes that’ll take immediate effect without testing them beforehand. So if you see something weird don’t fear! I’m probably working on it!

Hope you enjoy! Let me know your thoughts in the commentsss!

WordPress 3.0 Has Been Released!

WordPress 3.0, the blogging software that runs this blog, has been officially released to the world – and I have never been more excited.

When I clicked over to the official WordPress blog on Thursday afternoon (which I have been doing every day religiously for the past two weeks) I grew extremely giddy to see the new post read: “WordPress 3.0 “Thelonious””. I was practically jumping in my seat itching to update this blog and begin to play with all the new features that WordPress 3.0 offers. Unfortunately I had a Psychology quiz in two hours that I had to keep studying for. I managed to practice a level of self-restraint that I didn’t know I had.

After my Psych quiz was over and I was finally alone at home I upgraded this blog to 3.0. And then life kicked into overdrive on Friday leaving me with no real time to play until today.

As you can no doubt see I’ve changed the theme of my blog yet again. I have chosen the new default theme for WordPress 3.0 named Twenty Ten. It’s a very clean theme: very easy to read, highly functioning formatting of the website, and it takes advantage of the new features WordPress 3.0 offers. I am going to perform a few tweaks and twirks (I don’t think that word exists) in the near future to get the theme performing as I want it to. I think you’ll agree that it’s much easier on the eyes than the previous theme.

So WordPress 3.0 is out and I am just unbelievably excited. Click through to see a video which highlights some of the best new features WordPress 3.0 has to offer.

New Design, Same Direction

In case you haven’t noticed I am now using a new design. I changed it this afternoon but I haven’t had a chance to gab about it until now.

This new theme is called blog.txt and is the hard work of a fellow named Scott. Thanks Scott for your work!

I hope this design makes for easier reading. I also hope this design encourages me to make more unique pages instead of just updates.

Whatever the case may be, I hope your Thursday is sunny and cheery. I just love sunlight. :)
