Did you see Best Buy’s Super Bowl ads last night? If you haven’t, you should give them a watch. They feature the creators of Instagram, Shazam, and Square to name a few. Tastefully done and a joy to see.

Mesmerizing Video of a Washing Machine Destruction
Link
I’m not sure why I felt so uncomfortable while watching this video. Perhaps it was due to the somewhat human face of the washing machine. I couldn’t look away as it slowly destroyed itself, at times proud, at times scared. The machines are alive I tell ya.

Apple Releases iBooks 2 With Textbook Support
Link
Today Apple released iBooks 2 with support for textbooks. Along with this announcement they showed off a new video describing why they created support for textbooks and how they went about doing so. The video is typical Apple quality: endearing and uplifting. Overlook the length of the video and let yourself be captivated. This is some stuff that I wish I had growing up.
P.S: I just downloaded a sample textbook to try out. It’s pretty damn cool. You can expand and minimize pages and images just like in the video and everything is so snappy. You have to give it to Apple: when they set out to do one thing they get it done so right.
Trailer for Sleigh Bells Second Album Released
I was a big fan of Sleigh Bells’ first album. The raw sounds and fast beats let the album become one of my summer favorites, a record I could put on and play from start to finish as I drove around with my windows down.
It just so happens that Sleigh Bells released a trailer for their second album today. It’s a short teaser of the tunes to come, overlaid with some fun footage of their tour and just plain goofing off.

Anti-Meth PSAs Shot by Darren Aronofsky
Darren Aronofsky is a terrific director, able to capture obscene moments of human existence on film that make you cringe.
So it comes to no surprise that the Anti-Meth PSAs he directed are equally disturbing as his films.
Watch the first ad below. Warning: it’s very disturbing. Hit the link after to see all three videos.
Occupy Wall Street in New York City
Over the weekend I was in New York City with my girlfriend for my birthday present: a wine and pizza tasting class at New York Vintners. It was an awesome present. We each got served 7 glasses of wine paired with 3 different flat-bread pizzas. The wine was great and the pizza was delicious. (The best pizza was one with Boursin cheese, mushrooms, and truffle oil. Delicious.)
Before our class began we walked a few blocks down to Occupy Wall Street at Liberty Plaza. That was an interesting scene.

Stand-up Comedy
Comedy is a funny thing. I don’t mean that in an overly punny and witty way but the goal of comedy is to get people to laugh. I love getting people to laugh.
Growing up I was pretty interested in theater. I took part in a good handful of plays growing up: some were school productions and some were from local theater productions. I’ve also tried my hand at improv and sketch comedy in my high school’s improv group. The improv group was thrilling as you never knew what the other person on stage was going to say, in return you were never sure if you’d have something funny to say back.

Vlogging
I’ve wanted to start doing a vlog of sorts here for a while. You know, get myself in front of the camera, show off my face, my diction, my facial expressions. I tried once before a while ago but the result ended up being far too messy to make public. I’m intent on trying again though. So if you have any encouraging words for me to make getting in front of the camera more pleasurable and less horribly please let me know.
Working Toward Becoming A Workaholic
Although seemingly antithetical to a healthy lifestyle, I’m in the process of cultivating an addiction to work. This has the end goal of assigning myself the label ‘workaholic’, with the hoped for side-effect being an increase in works created, produced, and ultimately visible for display and sharing.
Currently I have time invested in the following arenas:
- Python and Web2py in pursuit of creating a web application
- Java and Android development in pursuit of an Android application
- Objective-C and the iOS SDK in pursuit of an iOS application
- Logic Studio and Music in pursuit of creating songs
- Final Cut and Videography in pursuit of creating movies
Each of these focuses have areas that overlap along with areas that remain independent. By this I mean some of the knowledge I have gained from learning Logic Studio benefits my musical pursuits, while not having any positive or negative influence on time spent creating a web application.
Previous to my decision to commit myself to working at a general scale I found myself constantly holding my head in agony, pained at the effort required to remember all the various projects and ideas I had thought and begun acting on.
Now I am able to umbrella all of these projects under the one goal of ‘Work’. This brings about less pain and clearer focus.
Previously I would commit an unnecessary amount of time deciding what project work on. Now I am free to decide to work and know that there are a plethora of projects awaiting completion.
While once I had five different and independent tasks ongoing, now I only have the one of ‘Work’. And this work is work I find to be greatly pleasing. So pleasing that I find it fun.
And fun is the way work should be.
