Page Views

Sometimes it’s very hard to predict how many hits this blog will get.

For example today I wasn’t expecting many hits on this blog. I was expecting to get a lower than average amount of hits. After all it’s only Tuesday, and I only wrote a little post earlier about my reaction to the new Google Reader design. All in all I was expecting small things from this blog today.

Yet surprises remain unexpected! Dare I say – surprising. This blog hit its average amount of views today and I have no clue how. I’m not stressing about the positive result, just again curious and fascinated at how unpredictable page views can be.

Of course if I had posted something very interesting today I would have expected a fair amount of hits. Yet even then, history has proven to me that is not always the case.

Ah well, so it goes. Glad people enjoy reading things here.

Habits

There’s a certain amount of comfort that comes from habit. It keeps things predictable, which in turn lets you worry less because you know what to expect. It’s much easier to go about your day with expectations than having to constantly relearn the behaviors around you.

There’s two primary sources of habit: internal and external. When young you learn a lot of habits from outside influences: don’t cross the street without looking both ways, say ‘bless you’ when someone sneezes. These come from your family and friends mostly, and serve as shortcut to societal customs.

The other source of habit comes from you. It is birthed, curated, and finally cemented by both conscious and unconscious internal mechanisms. These habits have the strongest influence on your behavior, dictating how you meet someone for the first time or how often you exercise.

Facebook Anxiety and More Nikon D7000 Videos

I read a post the other day that links posted to Facebook in the morning perform the best, i.e. they are more prominently displayed on other friends’ news feeds, thus getting seen more and subsequently (it is the hope) being clicked on the most. For the past two days I’ve been more or less consumed by this factoid, halting myself from writing and posting a post because it’s past 10am EST.

Well shit, that’s ruined at least two good posting impulses I’ve had in the past few days. All because of this little dirty factoid.

So it finally came to me today, even though it’s past 10am, to just fricken write about how I can’t get this factoid out of my head. It has wormed its way through my consciousness and given me a weird form of writer’s block that would not exist more than five years ago.

It’s amazing how much can change in such a short amount of time.

I want to write more about my new camera, the Nikon D7000, the flash mount for my Zoom that I ended up buying, and the videos that I’m putting together and posting on my YouTube account. (Find my YouTube account on the right rail, over click on this link: Harry Wolff’s YouTube Channel.)

So if you clicked on the YouTube link you’ll see I posted two vides taken with my new camera. I’m in the process of re-editing the ‘Demo Reel’ clip, putting in a little bit more example shots as well as cleaning up the video narrative. I hope to have that out by the weekend, but hopefully/probably sooner.

Also I’ve decided to make the posting frequency on this blog be as random as I am. I feel stupid stating this here because I know I’m damning myself to future transgressions of posting behavior, however that is just what I do, so I’m doing it. Be sure to sign up so you can get updates when I post. That is, if you like me. And even if you don’t like me sign up to be updated. I like you even if you don’t like me. And as the old saying goes, there’s not a whole lot of a difference between love and hate.

Rebranding

I started this blog without direction. I hoped that as I wrote entries and grew I would be able to hone the scope of what I post. I don’t think I’ve narrowed what I will or won’t post, but I do think I have come up with a solution that better encapsulates what I post.

My solution is a simple rebranding. No more will you see the bland and unimaginitive title of “Harry Wolff” adorning the top of each page – Its static letters haunting you from post to post, from page to page, and from link to link. The horrors that you had previously faced are gone.

May I introduce you to the new title of my website: Probably Harry. A site that isn’t always about me, but usually – and probably – is.

Looking forward to some good times everyone. :)
