New Theme, ‘Ari’

If you can’t tell, I’ve changed the theme of my blog. The old one was beginning to grow old for me. I liked a lot of what it did, which is why I haven’t switched to a radically different layout, but I was yearning for something a little more fresh. (Also the font choices on the old theme were beginning to really grate on me. They didn’t make any sense and seemed to arbitrarily capitalize things with no reason arbitrarily. Just like that sentence.)

So this new theme’s name is Ari. I found it from this post about WordPress themes and downloaded it from the official WordPress theme repository (which always makes me feel safer).

It has three columns like the old theme with the left column staying fixed as you scroll.

For comparison’s sake here’s what the old theme looked like:

As you can see, not much different.

But as everyone likes to say, it’s the little things that matter! And matter they do!

Excellent New TV Season Begins

So many TV shows have resumed their TV seasons in the past two weeks. Among them are True Blood, Weeds, Louie, and Futurama. What does this mean for me? Frankly, my productivity level is going to dip as I’ll be spending less time in front of the computer, and more time in front of the TV. Although to be fair all the time that I spend on the computer isn’t necessarily productive…it’s just time spent trying to lull myself into a state of productivity. This doesn’t always work. Sometimes I find myself going on Facebook, only to close Facebook and re-open Facebook in a new tab. So maybe with these distractions I’ll find myself even more productive than before, when I didn’t have TV shows that I needed to watch. Just so you know, there are NO spoilers ahead. I’m speaking as generally as a Major General.

Redesign of Wolff Technologies

Today it is my great pleasure to present to you the redesign of my freelance web design company, Wolff Technologies! This redesign has been in the works for just over a month, going through quite a few changes in concept and approach.

I’ve decided to go back to a design style that I find quite beautiful when done correctly – minimalism. This design approach incorporates both the space used by the content as well as the space left between the content. Through the wholesome union of these two components it is my belief that it leaves the viewer with a sense of clarity and richness without causing confusion or overwhelmingness.

I believe I’ve achieved this goal with my redesign. Although I already have more improvements in mind to add, I felt it was ready to go live in its current state. So if you’re looking for a website designer then look no further than Wolff Technologies! We got you covered :)

At Work: Redesign of dLife.com

Redesigning a website is never a light task. Depending on the size and breadth of the existing website it can sometimes be a horribly arduous undertaking. Yet usually redesigns are for the better. Without the pain of change there can be no joy from progress.

For the past couple of months I’ve been living this process. When I first began work at dlife.com I was quickly thrown into the middle of a 100%-top-to-bottom-bottom-to-top website redesign. This redesign was not just a visual overhaul but also an architectural one. Every aspect of the dlife.com website was to be touched, leaving no page un-modified.

Some two weeks ago the redesigned dLife was finally ready to go live. So on February 16th my co-workers and I hunkered down at dLife HQ till the early hours of the morning and launched dLife 2.0.

Take a look at the attached screen-shots to see how dLife looked before and after the redesign. And please – visit dLife.com and enjoy a premier online diabetic resource.

Let’s Try Some New WordPress Themes

It’s been almost a year that I’ve had this blog using the default WordPress theme “TwentyTen”. Well, it’s about time for a change! So feast your eyes around…there’s new decorations everywhere you look!

In case you weren’t sure, this theme redesign is a work in progress that will be progressing in a live fashion – as in I’ll be making changes that’ll take immediate effect without testing them beforehand. So if you see something weird don’t fear! I’m probably working on it!

Hope you enjoy! Let me know your thoughts in the commentsss!

100 Posts and College Graduation

This post marks two awesome achievements for me: I have, since last Thursday, been a college graduate, and this is my blog’s 100th post. I was going to post about my graduation on Thursday – when it happened – but I delayed it so that it would strike on the 100th post. For a while I was worried it would take me a while to get to this 100th post, and I’d have to make my college graduation post land on post 99, but I managed to make it work.

Looking back at my high school graduation seems so far away. I can still remember that summer, the one before I left for college: it feels like a vivid dream, so distant in memory yet so close in feeling. I’ve spent many nights looking through photos taken that year, and during my college years, with each photo set eliciting memories long dormant. Each photo always bringing about a strong feeling of nostalgia.

And now here I am, five years later, roughed up, shook up, but still standing. I’m a man with a degree, one that will hopefully safely propel me into the next stage of my life. Coming out of five long years of learning, I hope all my work pays off. I can’t stand the thought of all that work being for waste. I don’t think it will be, but the current job market is scary. I’ll be the first to admit that.

So last week I was a student, and this week I’m unemployed. A chapter of my life is now complete, and I’m excited to find out what happens next. College? Check. 100 posts? Check. Future? Let’s go.
