Aloe Blacc has an upcoming album called Good Things that’d due to come out sometime later this year. I’m not sure the exact date but I’ve been listening to his single, I Need A Dollar, repeatedly for the past few days and boy is it good. Soulful and upbeat with a great video as well.
The Roots release their 9th studio album, How I Got Over, tomorrow. To celebrate they have released a music video for their first single Dear God 2.0 as well as performed that same song live on Jimmy Fallon (in addition to being the show’s resident band). I’m impressed they’ve been able to put together an album while working Monday-Thursday’s on Jimmy Fallon. Kudos. Check out both videos on Pitchfork …Or click through to watch them below.
OK Go have made quite a few famous viral videos over the years. Their previous video featured a large and awe-inspiring Rube Goldberg machine. I didn’t like the tune so much but the video was more than worth a watch.
OK Go is back with a new video. This time around they’re messing with the speed of time. From an article at Discover Magazine:
The fastest we go is 172,800x, compressing 24 hours of real time into a blazing 1/2 second. The slowest is 1/32x speed, stretching a mere 1/2 second of real time into a whopping 16 seconds. This gives us a fastest to slowest ratio of 5.5 million. If you like averages, the average speed up factor of the band dancing is 270x. In total we shot 18 hours of the band dancing and 192 hours of LA skyline timelapse – over a million frames of video – and compressed it all down to 4 minutes and 30 seconds! Oh and don’t forget, it’s one continuous camera shot.
Really impressive and cool video. Gives me some neat ideas of how these time-manipulations could be used elsewhere.
Despite the video being one of OK Go’s finest I am very much in agreement with the song. I’ve never given an OK Go album a listen – most their material I heard from their singles and videos. However their song End Love is deliciously groovy.
Happy news for me! One of my favorite bands, The Walkmen, have just announced their new album. Titled Lisbon, it is set to come out September 14. Pitchfork has the full scoop. And if you want a taste of how awesome The Walkmen is check out their music video for their song The Rat.
The Black Keys just released their sixth (count ‘em) studio album called Brothers. It’s a great album with few flaws. However the biggest flaw of the album, neatly pointed out by Pitchfork:
If there’s one thing that keeps Brothers from jumping the gap between a “very good” album and a “great” album, it’s the running time. When it’s all said and done, the 15-track set runs almost an hour long
Hardly something to get too upset about it, but sadly the length of the album does detract from its overall quality.
They just released a new video for their track “Tighten Up” which is very funny. I wish I knew kids who could sing like that.
Don’t know if you heard but The New Pornographers have a new album out and it’s kinda great. I wasn’t a huge fan of their previous releases – more of a joyous listener than a rabid fan. However I am really enjoying their new album, Together.
Alternating between a female and male lead vocalist, their music goes along great with sun – days which I’m seeing much more frequently. The music is happy, poppy, and bright.
Following is a new music video for their Your Hands (Together) song. If this doesn’t give you any idea of what the album is like then I don’t know what will. Enjoy.
