Green Screen Filming With Charlie Christ

Photo Oct 22, 4 33 32 PMOver the weekend I acted as a camera operator. I took on this role to help film a few scenes from a movie my friends are making called Charlie Christ: The Gospel According to Fools. You can click to see the movie’s trailer page (which I made) and the movie’s trailer as well.

The shoot was a resounding success! We started at 11:30am and finished at 11:30pm. It was a long day but completely worth it. We got so many hard shots done and had a fun time doing it as well.

Towards the end of the day my fingers were beginning to cramp up from constantly readjusting the tripod. Also my eyes were beginning to lose the ability to focus properly, which wouldn’t allow me to properly focus the camera. Thankfully I never hit that wall and we were able to get all our filming done.

The day’s shoot was filmed on my Nikon D7000 (which I’ve written about before). At the beginning of the day I ran out to get a second battery for my camera. I’m very glad that I did: we ended up swapping batteries four times to get everything on film.

The movie is almost done! Rest assured you’ll hear more as we near the release date.

10 things to know about street photography

I’m a hobbyist photographer and I’m always looking to improve my craft. I learn what I can through practice but that can only get you so far. It’s always helpful to pick up a trick or two from someone who is an expert.

Until reading this article I didn’t know who Henri Cartier-Bresson was. Now I do and I appreciate his work and tips.

The page is easy to consume as it’s in easy list format. I especially like tip #7: ‘See the world like a painter’. Good tips.

Photography Page

dsc_2977  I’ve begun a new page on my blog. Aptly titled ‘Photography’ it will host my photography that I find noteworthy and worthy to share.

It will grow at a steady pace. I’ll add new photos from my hard drive as I collect them into appropriate collections and as I take new pictures. I have a lot of photos on my computer. Some are artsy and creative while others are just fun to look at.

Some of these photos have already found their way onto my Facebook photo album’s however those photos I keep private like my Facebook account. This blog is public and as such I want to share albums publicly.

I’ve toyed with the idea in the past to register on iStockphoto or some similar site and listing my photos there to see if I can make a small profit. I haven’t decided to do that yet but it may be interesting to try some day in the future.

For now please enjoy the one photo album I have published. Click the link on the left or just click here to see my photos.

My Photoblog

Not sure if you know but I maintain a parallel blog to this one. It’s found at hswolff.com and it’s where I post most of my photos as I go about my business.

Occasionally I’ll throw in an odd link or two there to change things up but mostly it serves as my photo blog. It’s powered and hosted by Posterous and I use Instagram’s auto-posting features to push every picture I take from my phone directly to Posterous which then shows up on hswolff.com.

It makes for a fine photoblog that allows me to maintain my identity on there without being lost in the midst of any other photo social network.

So if you haven’t already head over to hswolff.com to catch up on my life in pictures. Let me know if you liked any in particular.

South Beach

We’re on our way back home after spending a week in Miami’s South Beach. It was quite the well needed vacation. I haven’t felt weather this hot in such a long time – I almost forgot that I am way over-capable of producing buckets of sweat at a seconds notice.

The weather stayed above 85F pretty much every day, and even when it was overcast it was still magically bright and warm out. Every restaurant we ate at – and they were many – had large outdoor seating with tiny indoor room. This led me to fear for their livlihoods should South Beach ever face an unusually rainy season. That would strip outdoor room and just kill general tourism.

But that’s what South Beach sells and exists off of – sunny days and hot weather. And there was no short supply of that this past week.

Quick Picture Posting

The first picture app I started using was Picplz on my Android phone. There wasn’t any other options for me to go to. At the time the app that had all the media in a tizzy was Instagram – and they were iPhone only.

But I wanted to post my pictures – easily and quickly too! And starting out picplz handled that quite handsomely. So I went on my merry way, snapping pictures on my Droid and using picplz to get them online quickly.

And then the Verizon iPhone came out and I gobbled one up as fast as I could. I installed both picplz and Instagram on my phone right away – Instagram to try out and picplz to resume my account.

I tried out Instagram quickly and swiftly After running through its basic feature set I deleted it out of a sense of loyalty to picplz.

I should let it be known that when I first started using Picplz its quite affable and friendly founder – Dalton – quickly followed my account and liked a picture of mine. I further went on to write an unofficial WordPress Picplz widget that was again liked by Dalton and praised by other Picplz users. All of this instilled in me a relatively strong sense of loyalty to Picplz that I find kind of hard to break.

So today I’m on my second day of vacation in Miami and ready and willing to share my experiences through pictures. I would normally turn to Picplz to help me accomplish this task however recently two points of friction have caused me to not use Picplz as frequently.

Little Chipmunk

Saw this little guy on my way home after work last night. On an unrelated note, I love being able to declare something being “after work” and for it to still be light outside. Simply marvelous.

UPDATE!: I’ve been informed that is no chipmunk and is in fact a squirrel. Duly noted and taken note of! Squirrely thing!

Hair Do Or Hair Don’t

I’ve decided that one of the weakest areas of my Photoshop abilities rest in its Pen tool. It’s a very useful tool that allows basic designs to grow into complex designs, however the learning curve to become adept in its use is very steep.

So I’ve been going through a few tutorials and messing around with the tool in effort to better my skills. Have a look at one creation I’ve just concocted:
