Music Video: Ratatat – ‘Mahalo’

Ratatat’s latest album LP4 came out today and in celebration they’ve released a new music video for their track ‘Mahalo.’  According to Pitchfork:

Like its predecessor, nothing much happens in this video, which was directed by band member Evan Mast and premiered on Spinner today.

It’s a serene video but gives you a nice back-drop to the track.  Enjoy below.

Arcade Fire Announce New Album

Arcade Fire has announced the title and date of their upcoming album.  Called The Suburbs, it will be released August 3rd of this year (be sure to check out the source link for the cover-art)  I’ve added it to my Music Release list page for easy referencing.  Also two songs from the album have been released.  You can listen to them by following this link.

Music Release List

Hey, so, I realize that I’ve been making a lot of posts about music, mostly album reviews.  I’ve been having a great time listening to these albums, writing the reviews and hearing feedback from you.  However my ability to stay up-to-date and organized in terms of release dates has been sorely lacking.

There’s a lot of artists and musicians pumping out material on a daily basis and without some sort of organizing mechanism I know I’ll go bonkers trying to remember when a new album is being released.  So I did what I always do in these situations:  I got organized.

Have a look at the new page on my website, Music Release List.  It’s a list of upcoming albums that is organized in a pretty swanky table.  I’m going to update it with albums and artists that I like and with information as I find it.  Share it with your friends too!  I hope to make it a useful resource.  Enjoy! :)

LCD Soundsystem – This is Happening

There are few things I love more than summer albums.

You know the albums I’m talking about.  The ones that you crank to max volume in your car.  The ones that make you roll down all your windows and stick your hand out.  The ones that make you drive faster.

Also the ones that make you dance.

This new album from LCD Soundsystem, This Is Happening, is that album.  It is their third and arguably their best.

LCD Soundsystem is already well known for making highly danceable tracks, and this album is a very logical and well thought-out extension.  On their second album, Sound of Silver, each song felt organized and arranged in a logical manner.  The songs progressed as you would hope.  They broached the realm of predictability, with a machine-like and metallic timbre.  However that metallic feel and sound is nowhere to be found on This Is Happening.

The Black Keys – “Tighten Up” Video

Let’s keep you updated on current music trends:

The Black Keys just released their sixth (count ‘em) studio album called Brothers.  It’s a great album with few flaws.  However the biggest flaw of the album, neatly pointed out by Pitchfork:

If there’s one thing that keeps Brothers from jumping the gap between a “very good” album and a “great” album, it’s the running time. When it’s all said and done, the 15-track set runs almost an hour long

Hardly something to get too upset about it, but sadly the length of the album does detract from its overall quality.

They just released a new video for their track “Tighten Up” which is very funny.  I wish I knew kids who could sing like that.

The New Pornographers and Choreographed Karate

Don’t know if you heard but The New Pornographers have a new album out and it’s kinda great. I wasn’t a huge fan of their previous releases – more of a joyous listener than a rabid fan. However I am really enjoying their new album, Together.

Alternating between a female and male lead vocalist, their music goes along great with sun – days which I’m seeing much more frequently.  The music is happy, poppy, and bright.

Following is a new music video for their Your Hands (Together) song. If this doesn’t give you any idea of what the album is like then I don’t know what will. Enjoy.

B.o.B. – B.o.B Presents: The Adventures of Bobby Ray

I love when an album is released that I can’t help but listen to over, and over, and over again. The last album that had that effect on me was the debut album from Two Doors Cinema Club, whose review I posted in February.

These type of records are filled with songs that flow into one another, breathing life into the next song and cherishing the music that just passed. They work as complete albums and as stand alone tracks; songs to be played in the dead of night or to begin a new sunny day. They get my heart pumping and my spirits soaring while I bob my head along to the beat.

The debut album from twenty-one year-old Bobby Ray Simmons – aka B.o.B. – is causing my head to bob so much its giving me a stiff neck. The beats are infectious, the rhymes are tight, and the singing is strong. I don’t think I’ll grow tired of this album until it grows tired of me.

His album is named B.o.B Presents: The Adventures of Bobby Ray and it fits. Coming off of a few mix-tapes with some successful singles, B.o.B. is relatively unknown. Yet from what I’m hearing on his album he definitely knows himself.

New Videos from Niente Peaches and LCD Soundsystem

Last weekend my friends and I crammed ourselves into a room for seven hours and worked on the Charlie Christ movie. We got a lot of work done, a lot of planning done, and we also got some video podcasts filmed. Expect to see them up on the NientePeaches website in the very near future.

What we managed to do later that day was film a performance of Amazing Grace played on an iPad. There’s an entire post up on Niente’s site. Check it out here.

For now enjoy the new video from LCD Soundsystem’s upcoming LP, This is Happening. The single is Drunk Girls and the video is strange and awesome. Have a look.
