GetGlue Website Update

Today we pushed a huge update to GetGlue.com. I’ve been working on this update non-stop for the past two weeks and I’m hugely proud of the result. Of course this was a team effort to get the final product out the door but personally I feel very accomplished that my hard work is now viewable by all.

If you have some time today and want to try something new and fun I strongly suggest you sign up and enjoy the brand new website I helped create. :)

Update: Check out the official GetGlue blog update for a full run down of all the new features.

Vlogging

I’ve wanted to start doing a vlog of sorts here for a while. You know, get myself in front of the camera, show off my face, my diction, my facial expressions. I tried once before a while ago but the result ended up being far too messy to make public. I’m intent on trying again though. So if you have any encouraging words for me to make getting in front of the camera more pleasurable and less horribly please let me know. :)

A Worthwhile Goal

Found this link amidst my meanderings on the internet: Why 1000 words a day is easy and quick. This is a goal that I hope to immediately obtain as swiftly as possible. The joy writing brings me is great, the mental consternation I impose on myself before writing are unwelcome. If some system can help mitigate the unwelcome effects and encourage me to write more than I am completely gung-ho on the idea.

WordPress JetPack

Just got started with WordPress new and most excellent plug-in JetPack. The gist of this doo-hickey is that it brings all of the advanced features and benefits of having a hosted WordPress.com blog to every self-hosted WordPress.org blog. In laymen terms that means that I now have access to neat hover-cards, improved Site Stats UI, and WP.me short-links – to name a few. I haven’t had an extended amount of time to play around with every aspect of JetPack but from what I see so far this plug-in seems like a must-have for every WordPress.org blogger. Kudos WordPress team. :)

Playing With Java’s Spring

I’ve been playing with Java’s Spring for the past month at work. It’s quite the interesting web framework, and from what I can see most of its uniqueness is derived from the Java language it’s based on. I wouldn’t dare call myself any sort of OO or Java guru, but from what I do know and have experienced the manner in which Spring implements MVC and the creation of web application has a decidedly Java feel to it that I can’t help but feel has stuck me in a era before magical frameworks. Magical frameworks of course refer to Ruby on Rails, web2py, and all other non-Java frameworks I’ve cast my eye upon. Ah well, back to work.

Joke

Let’s say your last name is Mark. And you have a kid. And you name him Question. Now every time you yell for him you’ll be saying, “Hey – Question Mark! Get over here!”

Google’s Body Browser

I don’t know any other company that has as many fun side-projects as Google does. From the now defunct Google Wave to the recently updated Google Earth Google seems to always be buzzing with a new toy to share. Today’s newest Google Lab release is no exception. Allow me to introduce you to Google’s Body Browser, bringing the power and interactivity of Google Earth to the human body. View this post for more details.
