Americans Elect 2012 – Taking Politics Online

Link

Have you heard of Americans Elect 2012? It’s a very cool idea to take some of the oldest elements of our political system and move them into the digital age. American Elect 2012 describes their goal and it is a wondrous if not lofty one:

THE GOAL OF AMERICANS ELECT is to nominate a presidential ticket that answers directly to voters—not the political system.

American voters are tired of politics as usual. They want leaders that will put their country before their party, and American interests before special interests. Leaders who will work together to develop fresh solutions to the serious challenges facing our country. We believe a secure, online nominating process will prove that America is ready for a competitive, nonpartisan ticket.

This is a pretty funny comparison of Apple’s new OS X Mountain Lion vs. a real mountain lion.

OS X Mountain Lion’s Messaging: Messages App combines iChat and iMessages to sync all of your conversations across AIM, Jabber, Google Talk, Yahoo! Messenger, and across all your laptops, desktops, and iPhones.

Mountain Lion: Mountain Lions are solitary animals, so they prefer not to chat with anyone.

Pretty funny.

Initial Reactions to OS X Mountain Lion

Well I can’t say I’m not surprised. Not in my wildest dreams did I imagine that we’d be hearing about an OS X update in February, nor that it would come with the oh so obvious title of Mountain Lion.

But here we are, just two days after Valentines Day. A brand new version of OS X ready for developers to start munching on, learning its new capabilities and how to include it in their apps.

Everything about Mountain Lion seems obvious. There isn’t one curve-ball that has left me scratching my hand. It is the obvious evolution of OS X as it grows alongside iOS.

It’s wonderful that Apple has gotten around to removing a lot of OS X’s cruft. This cruft was not only outdated but also a source of confusion for new OS X users – especially when coming from iOS.

The Three True Job Interview Questions

Link

Although this article about Executive Recruiters might not apply directly to you the advice it contains does.

When you’re looking for a job it would do you good to ask yourself these three questions:

1. Can you do the job?
2. Will you love the job?
3. Can we tolerate working with you?

The article goes into a little more detail about what each of those questions entail. But really, the meaning should be self-evident from the questions themselves.

If you answer ‘No’ to even one of those questions then I’d say the job isn’t right for you. And if you take that job you’ll end up leaving it unhappily. You have to pay the bills but you should do your best to make sure you’re happy doing so.
